Wetland Mammals – Beavers
Beavers are one of the mammals that live in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. They are the largest rodent (gnawing animal) in North America. You can recognize a beaver by its broad, flat tail and thick, brown fur. They are also known for building dams and lodges. Beavers are adapted to live on land and in water (semi-aquatic). One of these adaptations is webbing on their hind feet. Beavers signal alarm by slapping the water with their tail while diving underwater.
