Teacher Workshops
Educators interested in learning about wetlands, wildlife, and human history in the Central Valley, teaching these subjects to students, and preparing for a Discover the Flyway field trip are invited to attend a Discover the Flyway Teacher Workshop.
All educators bringing their kindergarten to 12th grade students on a Discover the Flyway field trip must attend this workshop before their class field trip. This includes educators that plan on attending a field trip with another educator who has previously attended a workshop. This is a one-time requirement.
Teachers may make a reservation for a Discover the Flyway field trip before attending a Teacher Workshop but must attend a workshop before their scheduled field trip.
The Teacher Workshop includes
- An introduction to Discover the Flyway school programs
- How to plan for, and what to expect on, a Discover the Flyway field trip
- Hands-on participation in wetland related science and social studies learning activities
- A guided tour in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
- Access to Wild about Wetlands Resource Kits for in-class teaching about wetland ecosystems
- A continental breakfast and lunch
- A flash drive with field trip information, learning activity descriptions, chaperone tips, and resources
- Yolo Basin Foundation’s history and mission
What teachers say
“I was able to see the different learning activities and fit them to my class’s needs.”
2nd grade teacher, Sacramento
“I felt that it was well organized and presented. My time was well spent!”
3rd grade teacher, Davis
“Very useful! The workshop was well done in that I was able to experience first hand the wonderful activities that my students would be experiencing. The GL standards tied to the activities of the trip and organized on a flash drive made planning that much easier."
