Field Trips Fall 2025
Welcome to Discover the Flyway, where students embark on an unforgettable adventure through one of California’s most important natural habitats. This hands-on field trip takes learning beyond the classroom, offering students the chance to explore the incredible world of wetlands, wildlife, and the migratory birds that rely on them.
Logistics
Discover the Flyway In the Wildlife Area with Tour
- Time Required: Four hours
- Start Times: four start times available (9:15, 9:30, 9:45, 10:00)
- Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Location: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area (all outdoors)
- Schedule: Introduction to the wetlands, three pre-selected science activities, lunch, Wildlife Area tour
- Science Activity Unit: Migration Madness, Animal Tracks, Scat & Signs, Fantastic Flying Mammals
- Grades: 3rd – 6th
- Fee: $325
- Time Required: Two hours and forty five minutes
- Start Time: four start times available (9:15, 9:30, 9:45, 10:00)
- Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Location: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area (all outdoors)
- Schedule: Introduction to the wetlands, three pre-selected science activities, lunch

- Time Required: Three hours and thirty minutes
- Program Time: 10:00 – 1:30
- Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Location: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters Conference Room and the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
- Schedule: Introduction to the wetlands, one grade-related all-class activity (HQ), lunch, (morning activities take place indoors at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters), Wildlife Area tour (Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area)
- Grades and Activities:
- K-1: How Do I Compare to an Egret?
- 2nd – 6th: Owl Pellets -1; 2nd-12th
- 3rd-6th: What Can I Eat with This Beak?
- 3rd-4th: Patwin Life – Autumn: Acorn Season
- Fee: $300

Reservations are available online only. First come, first served.
Teachers are required to attend a one-time Teacher Workshop before bringing students to a Discover the Flyway Field Trip. If you have never attended a Teacher Workshop and would like to bring your class on a field trip, please register now.

Funding Assistance
