Teacher Workshops

Educators interested in learning about wetlands, wildlife, and human history in the Central Valley, teaching these subjects to students, and preparing for a Discover the Flyway field trip are invited to attend a Discover the Flyway Teacher Workshop.

All educators bringing their kindergarten to 12th grade students on a Discover the Flyway field trip must attend this workshop before their class field tripThis includes educators that plan on attending a field trip with another educator who has previously attended a workshop. This is a one-time requirement.

Teachers may make a reservation for a Discover the Flyway field trip before attending a Teacher Workshop but must attend a workshop before their scheduled field trip.

The Teacher Workshop includes

  • An introduction to Discover the Flyway school programs
  • How to plan for, and what to expect on, a Discover the Flyway field trip
  •  Hands-on participation in wetland related science and social studies learning activities
  • A guided tour in the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area
  • Access to Wild about Wetlands Resource Kits for in-class teaching about wetland ecosystems
  • A continental breakfast and lunch
  • A flash drive with field trip information, learning activity descriptions, chaperone tips, and resources
  • Yolo Basin Foundation’s history and mission
