Tour the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area with an experienced field trip leader the third Sunday of the month from October through June. View flooded seasonal and permanent wetlands, native grasslands and young riparian forests. Depending on the season, look for migrating and resident waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, raptors, and wading birds.

The third Sunday of each month except July, August and September and run from 9 am – 12 pm.

Reservations are required.

Meeting Location

Meet at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters a few minutes before the start of the tour.

From Davis take I-80 East and exit at Mace Blvd. Turn left at the end of the off-ramp (Chiles Road). Go straight through the next light and travel approximately 2 miles to the end of the road. The Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters will be on your right.

From Sacramento take I-80 West. At the west end of the Yolo Causeway bridge take the first exit (County Road 32A, East Chiles Road). Turn right at the end of the off-ramp and go under the freeway. Continue about two miles and the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters will be on your left.

Your group can experience the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area on a private tour led by Yolo Basin Foundation docents! Private tours can be from one to three hours and can be adjusted to meet your accessibility needs. If you are associated with a school group, please see our Discover the Flyway school programs.

Groups with 20 people or less: $200 
Groups with more than 20 people: $250  

(Participant maximum is 40 people. Larger group tours are not currently available.)

Private tours must be requested at least four weeks in advance of the tour date. Our ability to fulfill private tour requests is dependent on volunteer docent availability. For more information and to request a tour, please contact [email protected].

Pets are not allowed on tours. Please leave them at home.

Children are welcome on all trips. Each child must be registered as a guest to make sure we stay within our set attendee limit. 

Our tours are rain or shine. During periods of inclement weather or flooding, tours may be cancelled for safety. You will receive an email update in the event of a cancelled tour.

For warm weather bring a hat and sunscreen. For cold weather dress in layers. For all trips bring water, binoculars, spotting scopes and comfortable walking shoes or boots. Please leave pets at home.
